I recently sat down to interview myself on the subject of speaker evaluation forms. Here’s the transcript of the interview.<\/p>\n

What’s the use of a speaker evaluation form?<\/em> First of all, I prefer the term assessment<\/em> to evaluation<\/em>. It sounds to me less clinical–less distant.<\/p>\n

Sorry. What’s the purpose of a speaker assessment form? <\/em>To help speakers get better. However, let’s distinguish between the uses of a speaker assessment form at a training course<\/a><\/strong>, and one passed out at the end of a live presentation.<\/p>\n

What are the differences? <\/em>A training course assessment form will be more detailed and analytical–more process oriented, more focused on the mechanics of speaking<\/strong>. A form meant to be filled out by audience members after a talk should be short and sweet, focused on what audience members took away from the experience and any suggestions they might have for improvement.<\/p>\n

In what areas do speakers need to get better?<\/em> In messaging, use of PowerPoint<\/a><\/strong>, and personal impact.<\/p>\n

How should messaging be evaluated?<\/em> The message of a good presentation should:<\/p>\n
