For instance, they might say at the end of their budget slide, \u201cSo our marketing budget is 10% greater than last year, and the main reason for this is the new competition in the market.\u201d\u00a0 And then CLICK! They go to the \u201ccompetition\u201d slide.<\/p>\n

But many of us have trouble remembering what PowerPoint slide<\/a> is coming next.\u00a0 We are, after all, busy people.\u00a0 We often throw our slides together at the last minute.\u00a0 We often don\u2019t have much time to rehearse.\u00a0 We may know the content, but we may not be able to remember the flow.<\/p>\n

So what can we do?<\/p>\n

One trick is to create a build <\/em>on the next slide, so that when we get there, only the headline is showing.\u00a0 Done this way, the sequence would look like this:<\/p>\n

At the end of the budget slide, you\u2019d say,\u00a0 \u201cSo our budget is 10% greater than last year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then CLICK! You jump to the next slide<\/a> and glance at the headline, which states plainly, \u201cThere is new competition in the market,\u201d which you recognize right away and then say, \u201cAnd the main reason for the increase is the new competition in the market.\u201d\u00a0 And once you do, you CLICK! again, and the supporting data pops up on the screen.<\/p>\n

In this way, you and your audience simultaneously discover the reason for the increase in marketing spend.\u00a0 You do it together, which is a good thing.<\/p>\n

Of course, it\u2019s best to know what PowerPoint slide<\/a> is coming next.\u00a0 It allows you to create a tiny bit of drama with each new slide.\u00a0 But if you don\u2019t have time to rehearse, try the Headline as Build <\/em>technique.<\/p>\n
