I read the following in The Alternative Board\u2019s <\/a>newsletter today and want to pass this on to presenters and persuasive speakers.<\/p>\n What conversations are you avoiding?\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019s with a good friend you don\u2019t want to hurt.\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019s with a difficult person and you are concerned about their response.\u00a0 Or maybe it\u2019s with a family member in your business.<\/p>\n Susan Scott<\/a>, the author of the book \u201cFierce Conversations<\/a>,\u201d tells us that people want to hear the truth, even if it is unpalatable.\u00a0 There is something within us that responds deeply to people who level with us.<\/p>\n The Seven Principles of Fierce Conversations:<\/p>\n The Three Steps in a Fierce Conversation<\/p>\n Make a clear, concise opening statement<\/a>:\u00a0 Name the issue; give examples; describe your emotions; clarify what\u2019s at stake; identify your own contribution to the problem; indicate clearly your wish to resolve the issue; invite the other person to respond.<\/p>\n Inquire into the other person\u2019s view:\u00a0 Really try to understand their perspective, but don\u2019t be satisfied with defensiveness or surface explanations.\u00a0 Ask for more, saying \u201cI see things quite differently.\u201d<\/p>\n Resolution:\u00a0 What have we learned?\u00a0 Where are we now?\u00a0 Make an agreement and determine how you will hold each other accountable.<\/p>\n What fierce conversations are you avoiding?\u00a0 Or what fierce presentation are you avoiding?<\/p>\n Maybe it\u2019s time for a fierce conversation.\u00a0 Maybe it’s time for a fierce presentation!\u00a0 Thank you Susan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I read the following in The Alternative Board\u2019s newsletter today and want to pass this on to presenters and persuasive speakers.
